Fauziah Fadzil, 44, was active in hockey and had undergone a meniscus operation. Nevertheless, after a few years, she started to experience knee pain due to cartilage injury. However, after receiving five stem cell injections, Fauziah could walk normally again. She also found that new cartilage in the areas that were worn out were growing again.
Cartilage Regrowth
Fauziah Fadzil, 44, is a kindergarten operator. In her teens she was active in hockey and has undergone a meniscus operation. Nevertheless, after a few years, she started to experience knee pain due to cartilage injury. “I had trouble walking because the grinding of my knee cap against the bone and due to the extreme pain,I had to suddenly stop walking. ” she said.
At such a young age, Fauziah could not imagine that she can never walk again. Furthermore, if she had to undergo a knee replacement surgery. This procedure would only last 10 to 15 years and was usually performed on people over the age of 60. “I found out about the stem cells procedure after not being able to walk for three to four months and decided to give it a try. I knew this was a new procedure but was determined to try it.”
After receiving five stem cell injections, Fauziah could walk normally again. She also found that new cartilage in the areas that were worn out were growing again. This Stem-Cells treatment is a joint effort by Dr Saw Khay Yong of Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre (KLSMC) and Dr Paisal Hussin of the Orthopaedic Department, University Putra Malaysia, has seen great success since it was introduced to 50 patients two years ago.
