Shoulder and knee treatments start with a comprehensive evaluation of your injury. Your doctor will take your medical history, examine the injured area and take an X-ray and/or MRI scan. This enables the accurate diagnosis required to formulate a treatment plan. Treatment encompasses physiotherapy, medications and discussion on the indication for surgery (when needed).

Common Knee Problems

Knee Joint

  • Articular cartilage injury
  • Meniscus tear
  • Ligament sprain
  • Torn ligament e.g. Anterior Cruciate Ligament / Posterior Cruciate Ligament / Multi-ligament
  • Osteochondral fractures
  • Osteoarthritis

Patello-femoral Joint

  • Plica syndrome
  • Lateral patella maltracking
  • Recurrent dislocation of the patella

Arthroscopic Procedures to the Knee

  • Arthroscopic lateral release
  • Arthroscopic meniscus repair / menisectomy
  • Arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction – Anterior Cruciate Ligament / Posterior Cruciate Ligament or multi-ligament
  • Chondroplasty / Multiple subchondral drillings
  • Removal of loose bodies

Open Procedures to the Knee

  • Fracture fixation (e.g. patella fracture)
  • Unicondyler (partial) knee replacement
  • Total knee replacement
  • Osteotomy to correct mechanical mal-alignment

Common Shoulder Problems

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Impingement syndrome
  • Rotator cuff tear
  • Calcified tendonitis
  • Recurrent dislocation
  • SLAP lesion
  • Osteoarthritis

Arthroscopic procedures to the shoulder

  • Arthroscopic sub-acromial decompression
  • Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
  • Bankart repair for recurrent dislocation of the shoulder
  • SLAP repair

Open procedures to the shoulder

  • Fixation of fracture or discolation (e.g. AC joint dislocation, clavicle fracture)
  • Major fractures around the shoulder

Surgery

Arthroscopic surgery

Arthroscopic surgery or ‘key hole surgery’ involves making tiny incisions into the joint through which the surgeon performs the necessary procedure. Advantages include minimal pain and faster recovery.

Open surgery

If the injury is complex, open surgery may be required.
