[Berita Minggu] Proses ambil stem cell tidak sakit
The article describes the processes involved in stem cell extraction, and how it is used in stem cell therapy. It also stresses the procedure as being a painless experience.
Painless stem cells extraction process
Starting with an assessment and followed by a MRI scanning, the patient will undergo arthroscopic surgery with drilling a few holes to the bone surface. The surgery will cause coagulated blood to form on the bone surface which will then create a scaffold for cartilage regrowth.
After the drilling process, the stem cells will be taken from the patient. Usually it will be done about a week after the surgery. Depending on the patient’s condition, about 12.5 mililitres of stem cells is usually extracted.
These stem cells will be taken from the bone marrow. The new technique from StemLife is to give five injections to the patient everyday to stimulate the stem cells to be released out from the bone marrow.
These stem cells will then enter the normal blood stream. It is extracted from the patient’s body through a machine, similar to a blood donation procedure. This process only takes four hours and is not painful.
A week later, a combination of stem cells and hyaluronic acid will be injected into the knee once a week over a period of five weeks. This simple process can be performed in an outpatient clinic. Nevertheless, in a very severe cartilage injury case, stem cell injections alone will not be sufficient. This is because the congealed blood will have difficulty forming due to the reduced blood flow in the drilled area, thus the scaffolding for cartilage growth will be difficult to make.
Besides growing cartilage, stem cells are also believed to have the potential to remedy a few other orthopaedic cases such as injuries to the tendons and ligaments, nerves, muscle tears and ulcers on the feet of diabetics.
