At the Upper Limb unit, you will receive comprehensive evaluation and a customized treatment plan. In some cases, therapy and intensive rehabilitation will be necessary to ensure recovery and regain optimal function of the hand.

Hand therapy is a specialized program designed to provide exercises and activities to help return the hand to normal use and functions. Hand Therapists are Physio or Occupational Therapists with specialized training in rehabilitation of the Upper Limb. Achieving good result following a hand condition or injury is a team effort involving the patient, Hand Surgeon and Hand Therapist.

Our hands require sensation and motion. Sensation depends on skin, nerves and blood supply. Motion depends on joint movement, tendon gliding and muscle contraction. When there is a problem to the hand, utmost care must be given to all the different types of tissues that make the function of the hand possible.
